Christian Joy   Leave a comment

What a joke.  Life.  Seriously, it’s a riot!  A real hoot!

Right?

If there is one thing I have learned from being a Christian, its that life is a real joy.  It’s enjoyable.  I love just clowning around.  I do this because I’m simply a happy person.  Clowns put on makeup and funny clothes and have a blast.  I’ll even dress up from time to time, but that’s an entirely different story.

There’s great freedom in laughter.  We have probably all heard how many more muscles it takes to frown than smile, and the scientifically-proven physical benefits of several “belly laughs” per day.

Laugh.  Out loud.  Seriously, give it a try right now.  I don’t care if you’re at work, just throw your head back and let it fly.  I’ll wait…….

…….and wait……..

Didn’t that feel good?

I know far too many Christians who appear to have been baptized in lemon juice.  You’ve seen them.  These are the people who just kind of crinkle up and scowl at everything that comes their way.

Phooey (I say that because I don’t know how to spell the sound I just made).  Jesus said it this way, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” (John 10:10, NIV).  I like the way the Amplified Bible puts that last phrase, “I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows).”

Jesus has given you a specific reason to smile.  His love for you was shown on the cross.  His gift for you is eternal life with Him.  The bonus gift we have in our hands yet usually neglect is the happiness that goes with it NOW.

Why not smile?  Why not laugh?  What’s stopping you from enjoying every minute of every day?  Each breath should exhilarate you!

If you want to have the full life Christ wants to give you, then its time to relax and let the laughter flow.  What a great witness to the overflowing love of God in your life!
