Peace – Sermon Summary   Leave a comment

Luke 2:21-38.  The role of Jesus was to bring God’s love to those who were anticipating it (as well as those not).  This sense of relief, or peace, should be present in Christians today.

We live in a world today that claims to offer peace through a variety of avenues.  Comfortable beds, massages, money, recliners, good retirement plans (do they exist any more?) and things like alcohol and drugs to vacate your common sense – and don’t forget things like sex addictions and on and on and on.  The things of this world seem to be basically designed to help you “escape” reality.

The world just doesn’t seem to understand what real peace is.  The word Shalom is much deeper than some people imagine.  It means health, well-being, personal fulfillment and a sense of prosperity are wished for you.

I think that peace from God is found three ways.  There is peace of mind – the absence of anxiety.  Peace of heart – the absence of daily worries & stress.  Peace of spirit – the very essence of your being is at rest because of these absences.

Jesus is our source of peace.  He tells us in John 14:27 that it is His peace that He has given us.  Paul says that Christ Himself IS our peace.  When we put our faith and trust in Him, we have peace.

I summarize with the words of Jesus as found in John 16:33, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace.  In this world you will have trouble.  But take heart!  I have overcome the world.”  (NIV)
