Reminders   Leave a comment

The other day I made myself a Peanut Butter and Banana sandwich for lunch.  It reminded me of Elvis, and how I always used to make fun of the various things he ate.  For some reason, that reminded me of things that remind me of other things.  Some are goofy, some are serious, some are happy and others not; but regardless, I find it interesting to know that some things remind us of other things.  For example…

Drinking coffee reminds me of many mornings Diane and I used to spend on our porch, drinking coffee and just talking.  Sometimes we talked about important things while other times we just talked.  There were also times when we just sat there and watched the sunrise.

Seeing people with hair reminds me of, well, the days when I used to have some.

Our cats remind me that satanic influences still exist.  Our dogs remind me that heavenly beings still exist too.  Can you tell I’m a schnauzer person over our rescued, shedding, clawing, spoiled rotten, former female, fur-ball felines?  Even if they are kinda cute and fun to play with!

I see the boys watching cartoons sometimes while waiting for the bus and am reminded of how my cartoon watching was only possible on Saturday mornings.  Debate all you want, but there will never be anything funnier than the Road Runner!

I remember being skinny.  Actually I don’t, but it sure felt good to say that.

Seeing snow reminds me of the home I left behind many years ago.

The ocean will always remind me of God’s great creation, and what peace and tranquility can do for my soul.

Similarly, the mountains remind me of God’s majesty with the same sense of calm serenity.

Some things remind us of special times, funny events, and even people.

Communion.  Called by any name, such as Eucharist, Holy Communion, the Lord’s Supper, etc., it is a reminder of God’s great love for us all through the gift of Jesus Christ.  The bread represents the body that was given (not broken) and the cup represents the new covenant in the blood of Christ.

This is Holy Week.  Of what or whom are you reminded right now?
