Never Ashamed – Always Say Never pt. 3   Leave a comment

2 Timothy 1:8-12.

A Christmas ministry in the association of my first pastorate was really a good idea.  We provided clothing and toys for the less fortunate in a setting where they “shopped” through our donated goods and were witnessed to and prayed with our local pastors while their gifts were being wrapped for Christmas.  This was the first intentional witnessing event of my life and I was quite nervous.  I think it was the 3rd person I spoke with that accepted Jesus into their hearts.  My life has not been the same since. The text says that we are called to live a holy life.  Knowing the presence of God within us helps us understand the power of the Holy Spirit that helps us do this.  God wants us to live holy because He is holy and this is how we best witness to the world.

In the book of Acts in chapters 4 and 5 we are told of the apostles being arrested and taken before the Sanhedrin.  They were verbally abused and told to stop preaching and teaching in Jesus’ name, yet they stated that “…we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard” (Acts 4:20, NIV).  They were brought back later and this time flogged, yet rejoiced because of their suffering for the sake of Christ.

It takes great courage to stand up for Jesus!  But don’t just take my word for it.  Listen to the families of the young people at Columbine.  Listen to some people in our church who are still willing to go door to door.  Listen to some of our other folks who lead monthly services in a local prison.  Listen to the voices of missionaries around the world who face death around every corner.

I attended an evangelism conference and heard the story of a young man who approached the heaviest party-er on campus and told him, “Everything your looking for you’ll find in Jesus.”  The party man was attacked later that night, called out to the Lord and had his life spared.  He became a Christian, sensed a call to ministry and has never had a church service since when there wasn’t at least one person being baptized.  All this the result of a very nervous kid making one statement.

You know your story about Jesus and you.  Only you can tell this story.

  • Boldness is impossible without the power of the Holy Spirit.
  • The power of the Holy Spirit is not available without the presence of God.
  • The only way to experience this presence is to believe that you are a sinner in need of a Savior and realize that the only Savior is Jesus the Christ.

Everything you’re looking for you’ll find in Jesus!
