A Prayer for Leaders   3 comments

I belong to seemingly countless email groups that keep me informed in the world of religion, culture, and ministry.  One of those groups (smart ministry and preaching unleashed) sent an email yesterday with a prayer for all of their subscribers who are mostly ministers and church leaders.  I was moved to hear such a prayer for me and simply want to pass this along to all who dare to read it.

My challenge to those of you who are not in ministry or church leadership positions is to pray this prayer for your pastor and other leaders.  It isn’t very often we ministers hear of such prayers being offered for us. Read the rest of this entry »

Where’s Dave?   2 comments

Being on Facebook and reconnecting with a lot of old friends prompts this writing.  Instead of telling all of you one at a time “whatever happened to Dave” I thought I’d put it on here once and keep referring people to it.  So, while this is primarily for all of my old Ohio pals, please feel free to read some of my story below to get to know further who I am and what I have become!

So, what ever happened to Dave Peppler? Read the rest of this entry »

Toe Dipping – Sermon Summary   Leave a comment

Joshua 3:7-17.

We have assembled many of our ideas and dreams as a church.  Some ideas may be spot on while others may be a bit off target.  If we look at things through the lens of target practice, we see the bulls-eye as the primary target.  When we shoot and miss, we don’t give up.  We don’t put our tools away, admit defeat, and quit without ever trying again.  When it comes to the church moving forward in seeking God’s will, our bulls-eye is what we would call the center of God’s will.  If we don’t hit the target with our first shot, we cannot allow ourselves to feel defeated and lose our desire to try again.

In other words, we must learn from our past if we plan to continue to move forward again. Read the rest of this entry »

Silly Idea, Great Reminder   Leave a comment

A friend of mine recently posted on Facebook a quote from a book he read, and with this post came the instructions of grabbing the book nearest you, opening it to page 56 and posting the 5th sentence as your “status.”  I just happened to have in my hands a book that I had planned to revisit – Next Generation Leader by Andy Stanley.

The sentence said, “Failure is a part of success.” Read the rest of this entry »

Anniversary   Leave a comment

March 1, 1999 – March 1, 2009.

How does one celebrate their 10-year anniversary of full-time ministry?  Do I try to list names of all the folks who have made this such a blessing?  Do I recall accomplishments as if I’m retiring?  Do I go back into my calling period and reflect upon all of those people God put in my path as mentors and helpers?  Do I say “Hi Mom!” and wave at the camera?

If I dare try to list the names of those God has placed in my life as special mentors and helpers, I will certainly miss some.  Some may not wish to have their names published on the Internet.  All I know is this: God’s call on my life was and remains crystal clear.  He gets all the credit and glory for everything I am and do. Being a Pastor   1 comment

There are days when being a Pastor is thrilling and days when it is an overbearing burden.  Get a group of clergy together and you’ll see both smiles and sighs.  Personally, I find the balance to be invigorating, even if exhausting.  But as for me and my heart; I love being a Pastor.
